What makes flavor last in chewing gum? How do the developers make it last longer?

Im a food engineering student. One of my professors is working on microcapsules stuff. Gums is one of the products it can be used on.
So basically you encapsulate the flavoring in the microcapsules and put in the gum. As you chew the mechanical forces break open the capsules and “new” flavor is released making it last longer.
Sidenote:Same can be used to make flavor changing gum but that is much simpler. You add 2 flavors chemicals, 1 thats stronger but doesnt last much and one thats weaker but lasts longer. So the first flavor is more overpowering so you taste that only. When its gone you start tasting the weaker one thats still around.
