So I know the difference between Venom and Poison, and I’ve seen a video that shows how a snakes venom affects blood. But how does Poison affect people if it has to go through your digestive system first?

Poisons come in many forms, some are pure elements so are totally unimpaired by digestion, once in the body they can stop key processes taking place and shutting down those can kill the body.

“Poison” is a very general term for any chemical that causes negative health effects at a reasonably low dose.

Exactly what that effect is varies.

Carbon monoxide blocks oxygen uptake in the blood so you suffocate without realizing it.

Cyanide inhibits the primary energy production pathways in your cells, forcing them to stop functioning.

Heavy metals displace the metals you actually need in your critical enzymes and form non-functional structures that break down processes.

Chemicals get absorbed from your digestive track into your bloodstream. It’s the oral reason medicine works.

Anyone who has ever had an edible before will also know that it takes longer for whatever is in your digestive tract to be absorbed into the bloodstream compared to something like venom which is a direct injection.
