What type of analysis/what indicators drove investing strategies prior to computers?

The same ideas as today. Company balance sheets and disclosures were analyzed by humans, who pitched their bosses on what they thought was going to happen. Everything moved much more slowly, of course, since most people got their data from the financial section of the paper every morning.
