Because some cooks don’t have the time. Crab tastes better if you clean them before you boil them. Cut off the face to kill them (makes the rest of the process less like a pointy pinchy wrestling match), peel the triangle off the belly, rip the back shell off, tear off the gills with your fingers, rinse out the gloopy stuff. Throw clean dead crabs in boiling water seasoned to your taste.
