I am assuming you are not surrounded by varieties of spiders with their hairy bodies, thin wiry legs, soul-less eyes, jerky movements, ass that shoots out gossamer…
Spiders are so soul-less, ruthless and nonchalant, they are the cats of the insect kingdom. They inspire both fear and respect at the same time.

Touch. 1. They have hairy legs so you feel them when they land on you. 2. They can fly so you develop a phantom fear that they can touch you unexpectedly. 3. They have antennaes that extends their touch.

I don’t think humans are more afraid of them than other insects. Well, except for those Madagascar hissing ones that grow to 7.5 cm and hiss by expelling air through special parts of their body. That would freak me the hell out more than your average insect would, I guess.

I don’t think we are, really, they just have a cultural context in the western world of being among trash and garbage.

Socialisation. Cockroaches are often found in rotten environments, so we associate them with rotten environments, and we really don’t like the idea that the place we are in is littered with filth and decay. We don’t like cockroaches because we think cockroaches mean our house is dirty.

Also we feel inferiority towards their beautiful sleek shells, which humans don’t have.

I thought they were scary until I find I have scorpions in my house. No, cockroaches are harmless but are big.
