Why are wood flooring paterns made to look random and not symmetrical?

Wood flooring is laid in symmetrical patterns all the time, herringbone for example. Wood itself though varies in appearance, determined by how the tree grew in its environment. With imitation wood, if it all looked the same it would be too obvious that it’s fake.
