Why did a lot of businesses use Cooperplate Gothic as the font of their logos in earlier 20th century?

My guess is in terms of signage and shop fronts it was simple but elegant, allowing carpenters and artists to make the design quickly and easily with nice looking results
Fonts, like many other things, go through trends. At one point, Copperplate Gothic was the trend and showed up all over the place.
