They update quicker indeed. Maybe you are wondering too why it takes more time for a computer even if the download package is of the same size. Well, the downloading part is equal in both cases, so the delay comes with the installation. In a mobile it is pretty easy as porcessor and drives are less complex, so, Android does it faster. Plus, the installation of an app is always made in the same folder for a mobile phone by default.

On the other side, for a computer, the installation process is a differente thing. Where in an phone the installation process is completed within the app store (for apple) and in the installation program (for Android) which is the same for every app. In computers, the installation process is made by the program installation executable (I don’t if it said like that). That is why it takes more time. Also, in that process, you are usually asked for a destination for the installed program, sometimes you can you some options that you want to install or not, sometimes you get offered other programs as ads… And so on. So, basically, computers have a more meticulous process for installation, which, for big programs is pretty nice

Because auto-updating of apps has always been a feature on smartphones, along with using an app store as the only way to download and buy apps.

Computers on the other hand only added app stores in the last few years, and many apps still don’t integrate into the app stores. If they don’t, then the only way those apps update is when you open them and they check – if they do that at all. Other apps have their own background processes that run all the time and occasionally check for updates themselves.

On the other hand, computers auto-updating their own operating system (vs apps) is something that computers have had for quite a while, and this works fairly well and automatically.
