why do certain sounds illicit an unpleasant physical response?

For example when someone runs their fingernails down a chalk board or scraps cutlery together, why can it send a shiver down our spines? Other sounds don’t have this effect on us. I’m curious as to the science behind this.

For me it was teeth (mine or someone else’s) scraping on a fork. Drove me crazy, but I have no idea why.

From a scientific perspective it always comes back to evolution and how this feature would’ve helped us to survive and reproduce.

It could be that some sounds sound similar to what would be heard when in danger; whether that be a natural phenomenon or sounds from animals. Similar to how horrible the sound of a bee flying near to your ear is.

My best guess anyway!

P.S. mine are when I touch a cold piece of paper or scraping my skin or nails across dry paint
