I believe it is just fish-eye lens that does that effect. It captures larger picture, but has a lot of distortion as a result, where items stretched radially, with increased intensity further away from center.
Basically same as door eye hole.

It is the result of wide-angle lense that distort what you see. an extreme wide-angle lens is called a Fisheye lens. Stuff curve away from the center to the curve the other direction un the upper part makes object convex.
An image with a concave horizon is primary from balloons where the horizon is very close to flat Balloons are high in the atmosphere but can’t reach space.
