Some medicines are better absorbed and are able to do their job through sublingual administration, especially during emergency situations (allergic reactions, chest pain from an underlying heart condition, etc.), as it immediately enters the bloodstream. When swallowed whole, the pill still has to pass through the gastrointestinal system and undergo different processes so it takes longer have any effect on the body.

Typically sublingual absorption has a more rapid and complete effect, whereas with digestion, full absorption isn’t guaranteed due to variances in digestive duration. For me, for example, i process products VERY rapidly and don’t always absorb the full amount of the medication. Additionally, some medications may not be as digestion friendly, so it’s a more guaranteed and efficient result going the sublingual route.
