Could have been any number of things. In particular, vibrations can travel through a building, as can air pressure waves as doors or windows are moved. It’s likely the apple was poorly balanced and just needed a slight bump from something or other to tip it.

Vibrations, stray air currents, melting, thermal changes, etc., could all result in objects falling. Ultimately, it all comes down to gravity.

Usually there is some vibration that occurs that you may not have noticed, or even someone making a noise (since sound waves are actually the result of air pressure which in itself can move or vibrate objects). If something is in a super precarious position, is super round, or is really light, it really doesn’t take much of a vibration to move something. And if that movement happens to be in the direction where it goes off an edge, gravity does what gravity does and moves the object toward the center of the earth by the object moving in the direction we commonly know as “down”.
