The mucous in your nose is produced to keep the tissue from getting dry but also it’s a defence which acts to block bacteria or irritants before they gets to areas like your lungs where they could do much more damage.

Dust gets in your nose, and your body reacts by creating mucous to trap it. Your nose runs to get that mucous out of you.

If you’re after why dust in particular causes this it’s because it’s a lot of fine particles and things which are irritants or can trigger allergic reactions.

The main job of the nose is o filter out dust before it gets to the lungs so it coats the nose in liquid to trap dust and then sneezes to ditch the dust.

To prevent it from getting it into your body, particularly your lungs. The nose leak contains mucus that trapped some of that dust.

Our noses are hardwired to our brains. They’re so sensitive and so much communication goes on w the brain so it know’s going on.

It’s pretty amazing.
