You do produce sound when you exhale from a deep breath, it’s not very loud but it’s there.

When you yawn you are tensing muscles in your throat involuntarily in a way you do not normally do when you breathe. This causes tension on your vocal cords and throat which makes audible noises as it would. So when you yawn you activate your vocal cords which can potentially make a noise.

You don’t have to make a sound with your voice when you yawn. The only sound I make is basically the same as an exhale.
