Why do we use Liters/ml for liquids instead of kilograms/g?

As the title says, why do we use Liters/milliliters for liquids instead of kilograms/grams?

Liters and mL measure volume and not mass. Liquids are usually measured by volume because it tends to be a better measure of the amount of socas they take up than mass would be.
