As the title says, why do we use Liters/milliliters for liquids instead of kilograms/grams?

liters/ml are measuring volume (the space something takes up. kg/g measure the weight of an object. you can absolutely use either for an item (my recipes all list liquids in grams) however the numbers will not be the same. 100g of milk is 103ml, 100g of corn oil is 105ml. generally wieght will always be more accurate for a measurement but many people prefer using ml due to a measuring cup being a more common item than a scale.
Liters is a measure of quantity like how much of this. Grams is a weight measure and liquids vary widely in their weight because some are denser than others.
Liters measure volume and kilograms measure mass/weight. 100 kgs of stone and 100 kgs of feathers weigh the same but there would be a lot more feathers. Whereas 4 liters of milk is the same volume as 4 liters of water.
Uniformity would be my guess to why they use volume measurements instead of weight when it comes to liquids. Not all the liquids weigh the same so you would have all different sized containers for everything.
Because it’s considerably easier to measure liquids by volume than by weight. Further, it’s not terribly difficult to get mass or weight from a volumetric measurement; if you know the density of the liquid being measured, and you know the volume, then you know the mass.
Liters and milliliters are a measure of volume. If I have a liter of water, that’s the same volume as a liter of molten gold.
Kilograms and grams are measures of mass. Clearly, a liter of gold would have a much higher mass than a liter of water.
Not positive on the reason we use volume versus mass, but I’d imagine it’s for a few reasons. Most liquids are similar in density, so a volume of orange juice is going to be very close in mass to a volume of lemonade. There’s also the fact that volume is easier to measure. I can have a single measuring cup with lines on it instead of needing a scale to measure everything.
We typically measure out liquids based on the volume of the storage container they are poured into. The same volume of water, oil, or gasoline would weigh different amounts because they have different densities.
They are 2 different measurements, Kilograms are for mass Liters are for volume, you can actually convert liters to cubic meters, 1L = 1dm^(3)
If you aren’t familiar with metric system just know that 1dm(decimeter) is 1/10 of a meter, so 1dm^(3) is 1/1000 of a m^(3)
Liters and mL measure volume and not mass. Liquids are usually measured by volume because it tends to be a better measure of the amount of socas they take up than mass would be.
