I don’t remember where I read the question before but I think the answer is because the brain gets too familiar to the word till it does not feel like an actual word anymore and because of that it sounds weird when you say it and weirder when someone else says it.

Edit: remembered something and had to have it in

The brain adapts to the repetitive firing neuron patterns that result from saying the same word over and over again. Just like you stop noticing a smell after a while, your brain goes ” this is happening a bit too frequently and there is no benefit to keep making sense of these noises”

I feel like when you start saying random words, like over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over over, over doesn’t really seem like English anymore does it? And then you start thinking, “who made this sound o – v – e – r a word? In short, I feel like as we repeat words over and over again, the word in a way becomes primitive and it just sounds like you are making noises rather than an actual word.
