Why does putting my car keys to my head extend their range?

I’ve done that a valet, and it’s definitely true.
Anecdotally, I found it would be more/exclusively effective while my face was directed towards the vehicle, so I would venture an educated guess that your skull acts as a radar dish and the waves are more free to travel through the face than the other parts of the skull.
Related, I found its more effective to hold the remote under your chin and, when needed, open your mouth; you look like a damn fool, but they say time is money…..
