I’ve never really thought about it before, but why does yawning make everything sound more intense/louder?

That is because of the Eustachian tube. There is a small passage from the middle ear (the part after the eardrum) that goes into our mouth cave. Normally it is closed that no bacteria can crawl up in our ear and cause infection.

The tube is important to adjust pressure in our ear. While yawning (or swallowing) the tube is opened.
You can use this mechanism to adjust pressure in your ears while climbing a mountain or flying in a plane and gaining height. Or while diving.

By opening the usually closed tube there is contact between our middle ear and the air around us. This is normally not the case because of the ear drum that closes the middle ear.

So the normal hearing process is mostly done by our ear via the airdrum. Noice reaches the airdrum and sound is forwarded.
When we yawn the noises can reach our ear directly through the now opened tube.

The reason why it is louder is that the airdrum works like a silencer. Now that noises are bypassing the airdrum by reaching the middle ear through our mouth and the tube, the silencer isn’t working anylonger and sounds apear to be louder 🙂

Sorry for bad english

Because when you are yawning, due to air pressure, you are not able to hear most of the sound that’s coming…

And once you stop, the sound which you were already hearing sounds louder. And sometimes ppl’s ears also pop after yawning
