The bacteria takes up space and digests things we can’t.

It takes up space in your intestines, meaning nasty things like C Diff can’t take that space. It also digests things we can’t. Most of our digestion is done by bacteria. We only really can digest sugars in a pretty pure form and some minerals. Bacteria get us to that poimt

We have what’s called a symbiotic relationship, where both we and the bacteria benefit from each other. Lactobacillus bacteria metabolize certain nutrients for us that we’re not able to directly, and they also prevent bad bacteria from colonizing our guts. They use up the nutrients and take up space that bad bacteria could use, and they also produce some chemicals that are harmful to bad bacteria but not to themselves or to us. They’re one of the main groups of bacteria in our digestives systems as well as numerous other places on our bodies.
