Why is it deemed not possible to have black eyes?

People say there’s no such thing as black eyes, they’re just a very dark brown.

Is this really the case no matter the race?

If it helps, I’m East Asian with very-dark-brown-almost-black-looking eyes.

All eyes are brown. Every last human has brown eyes. What appears to be eyes of other colors is diffusion of light similar to why the sky is blue. The amount of diffusion is based on genetics, but ultimately your eyes are still brown.

There are certain pigments that our bodies produce naturally. Black isn’t one of them. Brown pigment, blue, yellow. You can have a mix of any of these, but only these or no pigment, which defaults to blue. People with pink looking eyes (albino) have such pale blue eyes that it’s actually not pigment, it’s blood vessels showing through.

What appears black is excessive pigment.
