Why is it that we can pause and rewind live TV, but we can’t pause and rewind the radio?

We can only pause and rewind live TV because we have a special computer set up to record what is being played on the TV. If we had special computers set up to record what is being played on the radio, we could pause and rewind that as well.

You can pause and rewind radio if you stream it on certain apps or a pc. You can’t pause or rewind analogue radio but you can’t with analogue TV either.

With streaming on demand music there is no real need to do that anymore.

The hardware exists. In the 80s it was analog cassette tape. Around 2005, my hauppauge pvr250 could tune FM stations and time shift them. I had several mp3 players that could use rockbox software to time shift fm radio.

The fm recording niche was very small, so there was not much demand and manufacturers never put the hardware together for devices that were constantly getting cheaper.
