Why is the fridge door so hard to open just after I’ve closed it?

I close my fridge door. Oops, forgot something, so I pull to open it. It now seems much harder to open than it did the first time. What’s going on here?

I think it’s to do with pressure or suction, the magnet on the door isn’t stronger suddenly. Or is my brain playing some trick where I only think it’s stronger? Or something else?

The process of cooling removes the pressure , the warm air that enters into the fridge and gets trapped inside is what creates the pressure. As that warm air matches the cold air of the fridge, the pressure goes away.

The fridge door can sometimes be difficult to open if you have just closed it. This is due to warm entering the fridge when the door was opened, this air then contracts as it cools down and this creates a vacuum. Once the pressure has equalised you should find the door easier to open.
