Sedentary (stationary) positions and stillness don’t promote blood flow or the burning of calories as well as moving frequently, or active lifestyles such as jogging or lifting weights.

Doing a mixture of exercises is usually better than just doing one 🙂

Our bodies are specially designed for a variety of movements. Too much of any position or movement without change causes extra wear and tear on the parts used. Without variety there is not enough time for the body to repair the damaged spots, so they keep getting worse which leads to pain and can lead to damage so bad that it can’t heal.

Our bodies rely on the skeletal muscles in our legs activating to move blood from the legs back to our heart. This is partly why the veins in our legs have valves — we squeeze blood up a bit at a time, the valves help keep it from descending down, and eventually it makes its way back to our core.

Sitting or standing too long without walking can lead to blood clots developing. Blood clots in your veins can travel to the lungs and block blood flow. When you hear about people suddenly dying after long plane rides, or after playing video games for a day straight without getting up to do more than use the bathroom, those are generally due to blood clots from venous blood not moving around.
