Grab some paper and make a little flip book animation. A stick man walking a ball bouncing w/e. Watch it go. Now watch it well blinking rapidly. It will look the drawing is “instantly” jumping from place to place. The same amount of time has passed but the information your brain can see is different. Sleeping is like blinking with your brain, there is less information to see so when your brain squishes the limited information together it seems instant.
