Why for most sports Olympic gold is the top achievement, while in boxing Olympic games are considered an amateur level?

It’s not most, it depends on the sport and what other leagues exist. For example, the nhl no longer allows players to participate in the Olympics while they’re in the nhl. So players will most often stay in the nhl because its the best league in the world and different sports have similar situations.

To comepete in Olympic boxing you can’t be a professional boxer. So for example Floyd marryweather, Connor McGregor, and Manny Paquiao would all unable to compete.

As to the actually business reasons they keep it like that. I haven’t heard solid reaosns and the Olympic committee are known to be hilariously corrupt so I am not really sure I would trust them on it anyway.

Because most Olympic sports don’t have the potential for their athletes to earn hundreds of millions of dollars.

If a top pole vaulter could make $80m by going head to head on pay-per-view with another top pole vaulter, nobody would care about Olympic pole vaulting.

It’s not the top achievement in most team sports – baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey.

It’s only the top achievement in sports that don’t have serious professional competition – track, swimming, gymnastics.

Pros can now compete in Olympic boxing (the rule was only changed in 2016), but few do. Because of the risk of injuries, not many top pro boxers would risk a multimillion dollar career just to try to win a gold medal. As a result it is dominated by young amateur boxers with the expectation that the best ones will turn pro rather than continue to fight amateur.

(Just like most top competitors in amateur wrestling or judo move to pro MMA.)

All Olympic sports are considered amateur events. For most of the history of the Olympics you were not allowed to be a paid professional in a sport because the Olympics was suppose to be about the best athletes from the common man. These rules have been lifted for some sports but not all, many still do not allow you to be a professional and compete.
