eli5: why can’t we eat cookie dough because it’s got raw egg in it, but athletes eat straight raw egg and they’re fine?

if you want to let your kids lick the spoon or have a taste of dough do so. sure there are some risks but if you refuse to eat slightly unsafe stuff you’ll just grow up with a shit immune system.
Plenty of consumables are not supposed to be eaten raw and will make you sick, but a bite or 2 will hardly cause any issues.
