Eli5 Why construction workers start so early in the morning?

Depends on the company, but generally construction companys work the hours that other firms work.
In the business of residential construction it is only useful to be at work when the trades are.
The exception to this is we had a plumber that had a full time job sding service during the week so he would show up and plumb after work ended. In this case anything he needed, supplies, appliances, fixtures would be delovered or procured during working hours and his job was really only to install them thus he didnt need to work on our sites during normal operating hours. It never failed he would call my dad almosy evey night for clarification.
But me as a on site carpenter need to be there during the hours my boss works because there will be questions and situations which need answeres or explanation etc. That being said plenty of guys who do production work will work over normal hours to get something finished. Since in Alberta anyway pretty much everything is sub contracted out the builder themselves often wont pay overtime just the price quoted by the sub. So of the drywall guys come in and work 14 hour days the price to the customer wont change. That management cost is paid by the sub contractor to his workers – and 90% of the time there is no overtime pay.
So the simple answer is that construction workers work really early because thats when all the other construction workers work.
