how some plants can survive with little to no direct sunlight

Basically the title. I’ve got some bushes in front of my house that are in the shade almost 100% of the time. How do they survive? Can they still harvest the sun’s energy from indirect light reflected off nearby objects?

Yes, reflected light works just fine. However, you need to be selective, many plants need 6+ hours of direct sunlight every day. If your plants are fine, they’re getting by on reflected light and little to no sunlight.

All plants use photosynthesis to transform light into energy. Most plants do not require direct sunlight for photosynthesis, only indirect light

Maybe think of it this way, if you can see the plant then there must be SOME light reflecting off the plant and going back to your eye too see! If the plant was completely “shaded” and not getting any light at all it would be a dark void you couldn’t perceive.
