What is it that keeps us from eating something that is too cute?

We want to protect what we consider cute. That originally comes from newborn babies actually as they require the most attention and protection. That’s why all people go screeching *”awwww this baby is sooooo cuuute”* when they see literally any random baby. What we consider cute is mostly dependent on things like face shape, behavior, speech, and similar. Again influenced by babies.

This apparently transfers to animals to some extent. Best examples are cats and puppies.

Name a baby animal that we eat that isn’t cute? Piglet? Cute. Calf? Cute. Chick? Cute. We eat them even when they are young. How about the people who looked at animals that are ugly and thinking “I’d eat that.” Here in New Zealand we’ll eat kina or paua and if you’ve never seen them before you’d wonder how hungry the first person was who did was.

What YOU eat is also not based on cuteness or lack thereof. It’s based on your culture and region. Not sure where you are from, but it’s most likely that you’d be eating Guinea pigs if you were raised in some areas of Peru. I hope that makes sense lol
