I wear disposable contacts and prescription glasses. My prescription hasn’t changed for years. Why am I not able to use my old prescription to buy contact lenses when I run out ? Why do I need a new prescription, every year ? I don’t understand why this mandate exists to expire prescriptions so quickly. It feels like contact lenses and prescription glasses are treated like a prescription drug! While most other countries let you buy them off the shelf, even without a prescription. For someone like me who is basically blind without them, I find this friction point pretty frustrating when I run out of contact lenses and it then requires me to make an appointment with an optometrist if my prescription is no longer valid.
