Why does elevating an injury, such as a sprained ankle, help with the healing process?

Raising the injury helps the body to absorb the tissue fluid that has leaked out because of the injury.

This also helps with reducing swelling, which can make the injury feel a little more comfortable as well.

Ice and NSAIDS (Such as ibuprofen) also help to reduce swelling and reduce restrictions to blood flow.

to any doctor out there, I walked with a sprained ankle. I rested for 1 day but couldn’t really afford to be resting those days. Since then I stopped playing basketball. What I wonder is if my ankle is weaker or stronger now? If i get to play basketball again my chances of spraining that same ankle are higher lower or uncertain? Thank you.
