The disruption caused by external noise halts the bodies natural recovery from the day prior, that if timed right you can wake up with the same positive vigor, however that requires precision timing.

Natural awakenings is the bodies natural progression into being awake, which allows for that endorphin release to get up. Though sometimes it’s not as successful and makes me want to sleep even more

When you wake up naturally your body says “Okay, I’ve rested enough, I’m all set up for a new day!”
However, when you set an alarm your sleep gets interrupted, therefore your body is not in a balanced and calm state, affecting your mood as well.

Your sleep goes in cycles (Non-REM and REM) and in the first two parts of nonREM, you are only lightly asleep, while in the the third part of Non-REM and REM you are in deep sleep. Your body usually (sleep paralysis is the exception) won’t wake you up in deep sleep, your alarm however, does not care, and will shock you out of deep sleep, when the body isn’t expecting it.

When I’ve rested enough to wake naturally, it’s several hours after my alarm would have gone off.

It’s a shock. Your body isn’t awake, so it’s not happy about being woken up. Hormones are set for sleep, everything’s still in sleep mode.

If you struggle with alarms.

Get a light alarm.

Because they emulate a sunrise, they trigger the “the sun is rising” hormones so you wake fairly naturally, and not grumpy 99% of the time.
