How do cramps work?

If this is referring to cramp from exercise, it happens because when we exercise we respire anaerobiclly and produce lactic acid which builds up in our muscles. This lactic acid then goes to the liver and and is turned back into glucose for the body to use. This initial build-up of lactic acid in the liver may be the cause of abdominal cramps.
